How we use it

  • To fill your order: process payment, print and ship your items, send order and shipping updates, and handle returns and exchanges.
  • To talk to you: answer your emails and contact-form messages.
  • To send marketing you signed up for: new drops, sales and cart reminders by email or text. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To run rewards and VIP perks: track points and give access to members-only products.
  • To show ads: measure how our ads perform and show our ads to people likely to be interested, including people who've already visited our site.
  • To improve the site: understand which pages and products people use.
  • To keep things safe and legal: prevent fraud and spam, and meet tax, accounting and legal obligations.

What we don't do: A lot of our designs are political, and some are about identity. We don't use what you buy or browse to profile your political views, sexual orientation, religion or other sensitive traits, and we don't sell lists of customers who bought certain designs. When we report purchases to ad partners, we send product ID numbers, not design names.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information for money. We only share it with the companies that help us run the shop, plus advertising partners as described below.

Government and legal requests: We only hand over customer information when the law requires it, such as a valid subpoena, warrant or court order. We'll push back on requests that are overly broad. Where the law allows, we'll tell you before we disclose your information so you can respond. We may also share information to prevent fraud or protect our rights, or if the business is ever sold.

About advertising: When Meta and Google tools on our site record what you view or buy so we can show you ads, some privacy laws call that "selling" or "sharing" personal information, even though no money changes hands. You can opt out. See Cookies, tracking and your choices.

In the past 12 months, we have disclosed the following for advertising, which California law may consider "selling" or "sharing." We have not sold personal information for money.

Category Examples Shared with
Identifiers Email, phone, IP address, cookie and device IDs Meta, Google
Commercial information Products viewed, added to cart and purchased Meta, Google

Email and text messages

Email: If you sign up or buy from us, we may send you marketing emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.

Texts: We only send marketing texts if you've opted in. Joining isn't required to buy anything. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe or HELP for help, or email aaron@murderapparel.com.

Your phone number stays with us. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. We only share your number with the service providers that deliver our texts (Klaviyo and the phone carriers).

Discounts and rewards (Notice of Financial Incentive)

We offer a few perks that involve your personal information:

  • Sign-up discount: a one-time discount code (currently 15% off) when you join our email or text list. Involves your email or phone number.
  • Rewards and VIP program: points on purchases and access to members-only designs. Involves your name, email, account and order history.

You join these by signing up and agreeing to the terms. You can leave anytime by unsubscribing, emailing us, or deleting your account. Leaving won't affect anything you've already bought.

How we value your data: We estimate the value of a subscriber's or member's data as roughly equal to the value of the perk we give: (about $5 per subscriber). We base this on the extra sales marketing subscribers bring in, minus what it costs us to run the program.

Cookies, tracking and your choices

We use cookies and similar tools (pixels, tags) for three things:

  • Essential: keeping your cart, checkout and login working. These can't be turned off.
  • Analytics: understanding how people use the site (Shopify and Google Analytics).
  • Advertising: measuring ads and showing ads to past visitors (Meta and Google Ads).

Email and text tracking: Klaviyo uses cookies and tracking links to tell when you open our emails, click a link, or come back to the site after clicking. That's how cart reminders and "you might like this" emails work. You can stop it by unsubscribing or declining marketing cookies.

How to opt out:

  1. Use the cookie banner or the Your Privacy Choices link at the bottom of every page to turn off analytics and advertising cookies.
  2. Turn on Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser. We treat it as a request to opt out of ad sharing.
  3. Change your ad settings with Meta or Google, or use the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out.
  4. Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work properly without them.

Visitors in the EU and UK are asked for consent before any analytics or advertising cookies load.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Know and access what personal information we have about you
  • Correct information that's wrong
  • Delete your information
  • Get a copy of your information in a portable format
  • Opt out of targeted advertising and the "sale" or "sharing" of your information
  • Withdraw consent you've given us, such as for marketing

These rights apply to residents of California and the other US states with privacy laws, and to people in the EU, UK and similar places. We're happy to honor reasonable requests from anyone.

How to make a request: Email aaron@murderapparel.com with your request and the email address you use with us. We may ask you to confirm details to verify your identity. You can also have an authorized agent make the request for you. We'll confirm we received your request within 10 business days and respond within 45 days (30 days in the EU and UK). If we need more time, we'll tell you why. We won't treat you differently or charge you more for using these rights.

If we say no: You can reply to appeal our decision. If you're still not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general or your local data protection authority.

EU and UK visitors: We use your information to fill your orders (contract), to send marketing and set non-essential cookies (your consent), and to run and protect our shop (our legitimate interests).

California "Shine the Light": California residents can ask once a year whether we shared personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing. We don't do this. To ask, email us.

Nevada residents: We don't sell personal information as Nevada law defines it. You can still email us to opt out of any future sale.

Everything else

How long we keep it: We keep order records as long as we need them for taxes, accounting and returns, usually about 7 years. We keep marketing data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We keep browsing data for up to 2 years.

Security: Payments are handled by Shopify's secure checkout, and we limit who can access customer data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Kids: Our site isn't meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

International visitors: We're based in the US, and our service providers may store data in the US, Canada and other countries. When information from the EU or UK is transferred, we rely on our providers' legal safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Changes: If we update this policy, we'll change the effective date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll post a notice on the site.

Reviews and customer photos: Reviews you leave, including your first name or initials and any photos, are shown publicly on our site. If you tag us in a photo on social media, we may ask to repost it, and we'll credit you. Email us if you want a review or repost taken down.

Accessibility: If you need this policy in another format, such as large print or read aloud, email us and we'll help.
